Care guide
Preparation
Always use a detergent specifically formulated for silk. True silk is a natural protein fibre and should be washed only with a pH-neutral formula free from enzymes, bleach and optical brighteners, which can weaken fibres and dull their natural lustre over time. Silk does not require high temperatures to become clean; gentle washing and thorough rinsing effectively remove impurities, as bacteria do not readily adhere to silk and the fabric dries quickly. We recommend Sonett Wool & Silk Sensitive for optimal care.

Preparation
Before you begin, close any zippers and secure drawstrings or ribbons. Turn the item inside out (silk side inward) and wash light and dark colours separately to prevent dye transfer.

Hand wash (recommended)
Begin by filling a clean basin or sink with lukewarm water, no hotter than 30 °C (86 °F), and dissolve a small amount of a silk-specific, pH-neutral detergent that is free from enzymes or bleach. Gently submerge the silk into the water and let it soak for three to five minutes, pressing the water through the fabric without rubbing or wringing. Finally, rinse the silk thoroughly under lukewarm running water until all detergent has been removed.

Machine wash (only if absolutely necessary)
Choose the delicate or silk cycle on your machine, keeping the temperature at a maximum of 30 °C (86 °F) and the duration short, then place the silk garment in a fine laundry bag or pillowcase to minimize friction against the drum, and use only liquid silk detergent, avoiding fabric softeners or powder.

Drying
Press out excess water gently, do not wring. Lay the item flat on a clean towel and roll it up to absorb moisture. Unroll and either lay the silk flat or hang it by the corners to air dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Air dry, never tumble dry.

Ironing & storage
When the silk is still slightly damp, iron on the lowest heat or “silk” setting. Place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and silk to avoid shine marks or burns. Store your silk items in a dry, dark place, ideally inside a breathable cotton bag or cover.
